A high functioning kitchen doesn’t have to sacrifice high design.
Balancing industrial-grade appliances with elegant, ergonomic design, this kitchen renovation has it all.
A full kitchen renovation provided the perfect opportunity to create a more beautiful and functional space for this family. With full range appliances and ease of use the top priorities, it took thoughtful, custom designs to create a space that works as hard as an industrial kitchen without the stark utilitarianism that typically comes with it.
The new layout accommodates wider walkways in and out of the room as well as around the workhorse island, which includes the larger of the two sinks in this kitchen. A secondary prep-sink sits on the other side of the kitchen in a large expanse of open countertop creating a perfect place to cut, prep and rinse while staying out of the way of the range and oven.
Task-specific appliances such as a warming drawer and dishwasher drawer were installed without the visual heaviness these features often have. Instead, entirely custom cabinetry was installed throughout the kitchen, including cabinet fronts for each appliance as well as an industrial refrigerator.
For even more functionality, special attention was given to the lighting plan, which includes classically modern matte brass fixtures for ambient lighting over the island as well as recessed lighting, under cabinet lighting and task lighting.
As with all renovations, it can be a challenge to merge the new with the old without a feeling of disconnect. One of the biggest things that can help make the transition is to carry the home’s existing style of millwork and trim into the renovated space. This was achieved seamlessly in this kitchen remodel by making many of the millwork components on site, so each piece fit perfectly in place.
