A tired, wooden, ground-level deck simply wasn’t providing the outdoor living space our clients desired. They wanted something they could enjoy year-round, which meant a space to stay cool, warm and covered.
Creative Customizations
To create something that could be used all year, a roof and fireplace were added, which required tying into the existing home’s exterior structure and roofline. This also required creatively moving and framing around ductwork and improving the exterior access with new energy efficient sliding windows and patio door. The height of the roofline allowed us to create a vaulted ceiling so the covered porch space feels open and expansive.
Covered and Cozy
A stone, wood-burning fireplace and chimney are the dramatic centerpiece of the covered porch and create a cozy place to enjoy the mild Central Virginia winters. An outdoor TV allows them to watch their favorite teams or shows while also enjoying the beauty of their wooded backyard. A beautifully crafted wooden outdoor ceiling fan was also installed for warm spring and summer days.
More is More
Beyond the covered porch, a bluestone patio and bench seating were constructed with custom built in lighting under the limestone caps. All the stone work for both the covered and uncovered patio was custom fit, piece by piece and cut onsite. This expanded outdoor living space now allows these homeowners to enjoy more of their home more of the time, and that’s what it’s all about.
